Carrie's "Pretend" Birthday Party

Since Carrie's birthday is in the summertime we decided to have her and another girl in her class, Scout, a "pretend" birthday party. Scout's mom, Keri, and I provided cupcakes, chips, and drinks. They got to ride around in the birthday chair (which are the teachers chairs that are on wheels) and they had a blast. We have had an amazing kindergarten year!

Carrie's birthday is actually one month from today and I can not believe she will be 6! Where has the time gone?

Life is precious

Yesterday we found out that a friend of ours, Kasi Webb, died suddenly. We are not 100% sure of the reason, but think it has to do with her heart, possibly a heart attack. She was young and has 3 young children, the oldest will be entering Middle School in the fall and the youngest will be entering Kindergarten in the fall. My heart is breaking for her husband, Travis, and those babies.
As I think about this situation I understand and know that each day is a gift from God. God has placed each one of us on this earth for His purpose and when we fulfill His purpose He will take us home to be with him, Kasi had fulfilled her purpose and He was ready for her to come home. The ones that are suffering are the ones that are still left here on earth.

During this time I am reminded of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

To everything there is a season, and
a time to every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, and
a time to die;
a time to plant, and
a time to pluck up
that which is planted;

A time to kill, and
a time to heal;
a time to break down, and
a time to build up;

A time to weep, and
a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and

a time to refrain from embracing;

Dear Lord,
Please be with the Webb family. I know that they are feeling so many emotions right now, I pray that your loving arms will wrap them and that they will feel you right now. Kasi was a fun-loving person and she loved you! I know that she is smiling in heaven right now, however, I know her family down here is saddend and scared..please comfort them! We do not know why this has happend, but you do...you are in total control! When they ask questions, Lord, please answer those questions for them. My heart goes out to Travis, Natalie, Jackson and Delaney, please be with them during this time.

Tonight Carrie played so good and actually scored her first goal of her soccer career! I am so very proud of her! She was so surprised that it went in! Now I think she has even more confidence to go to the goal with the ball! Tomorrow we get to go get ice cream to celebrate her goal!

Ruby Among Us

I recently finished "Ruby Among Us" by Tina Ann Forkner, it was an easy read and one that I enjoyed. This book is about a girl, Lucy, who lost her mother at a very early age and is raised by her Grandmother, Kitty. Her grandmother has sheltered Lucy all of her life and at 19 and a senior in college she begins to question things. Lucy didn't know her father or her grandfather and wants to learn more about them and their backgrounds. Lucy goes through lots of trials to find the answers she is looking for. Lots of secrets are eventually revealed! Her main goal in asking her questions is to remember her mother, she is so upset and hurt that she can't remember the past. As she asks questions she begins to remember more and more about her mother and others. It is a heart-warming book.
To me this book is about remembering the past but also about celebrating the future, if that even makes sense! We are who we are today because of our past...and we need to remember the lessons that we have been taught to help us in the future. If you are looking for something easy to read this would be a good one to read.
